Berea College Transfer Acceptance Rate
Berea College is a private, coeducational institution that was established in 1855 in Berea, Kentucky. It boasts a total undergraduate enrollment of 1,432 students (fall 2020), is located in a rural location and has a campus area of 140 acres in size. It adheres to a semester-based academic calendar structure. Berea College is ranked #30 in the National Liberal Arts Colleges category in the Best Colleges publication for 2023.
Berea College, located in the Kentucky city of Berea, is well-known for being the first interracial and coeducational college in the South, having opened its doors in 1890. Berea College differs from most other institutions in that it does not charge students tuition to attend the institution. Student financial aid, contributions, and endowment income are all important sources of revenue for the college, which helps students pursue their educational goals.
Everyone on campus and in the community is required to work a minimum of 10 hours per week in jobs that have been approved by the administration. Additionally, there are more than 70 organizations for which students can participate, in addition to degree-granting programs in 28 fields of study. Unless they are 23 years old or older, married, or a parent, all students are expected to live on campus during their time at the university.
Berea College is a member of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, which is part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, and it has 16 varsity sports programs on the field. The Mountaineers are the athletic teams that represent the university.
The EDGE Program, which is available to all students accepted to Berea College, provides them with a laptop computer to utilize during their college years. Several student cafés and recreational lounges, together known as the “loud” lounges on campus, are located in the Woods-Penniman Commons, which also includes one of the student cafés and recreational lounges.
The study abroad program at Berea College is extremely popular, with more than half of the student population participating in a study abroad program while in college. Among the notable alumni of the college is John Bennett Fenn, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1962.

Berea College Acceptance Rate
Berea College has a 33 percent acceptance rate for new freshmen. Moreover half of the applicants admitted to Berea College have SAT scores ranging between 1100 and 1263, or an ACT score ranging between 22 and 26 points.
However, one-quarter of those who were admitted received scores that were above these limits, and one-quarter received scores that were below these ranges. Berea College has a March 31st application deadline for those interested in attending.

Transfer applications are accepted at a rate of 41.25 percent at Berea College, which is competitive. To be considered for transfer into Berea College, you must have a current grade point average of at least 3.54 – ideally, your grade point average will be around 3.68. In addition, you will be required to submit results from standardized tests.
Berea College Transfer Application Requirements
- Minimum GPA: Admission to Berea College is encouraged for transfer students who have earned at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average in their previous college. Berea Collegiate accepts transfer students with an average college grade point average (GPA) of 3.25. Ineligible for admission to Berea College are students who have earned a grade point average of less than 2.5 in their last 24 hours of college credit.
- Official Transcripts: It is necessary to submit an official high school transcript. To be considered for admission, official college transcripts from each institution attended or attended must be given directly to the Berea College Office of Admissions.
- SAT Scores: In the case of applicants who can provide an official transcript demonstrating grades for at least 24 semester hours of college credit earned at a regionally accredited institution, the official ACT or SAT I test scores are waived completely.
- Letters of Recommendation: The forms must be completed by a former teacher, college professor, principal, or another school official, and submitted to the Department of Education.
- Essay: It is recommended that you write an essay or personal statement.

Berea College Transfer Credit Policy
- Minimum Grade: When a college-level course is completed at a regionally accredited institution with a grade of C or better, credit is awarded. However, the work must be done within ten years of the date you want to begin your studies at Berea College to be considered.
- Credits (Min/Max): Eight (8) of the last eleven (11) courses required for completion of the degree must be completed while a student is enrolled in residence at Berea. Exceptions can be granted with the approval of the Student Admission and Academic Standing Committee.
