Marshall University accepts all transferable coursework from authorized colleges that have been approved by the university. Credit for course work completed at another accepted and accredited institution transfers at the same level as the course work completed there. This is crucial to note since, to graduate from Marshall, students must have a certain amount of upper-division credits (300/400 level credits), which is defined by the institution where they are enrolled.
Consider the following scenario: A student attends another institution and then transfers to Marshall and enrolls in ENG 320, American Literature. While the student will receive credit for ENG 320 at Marshall, the credits will be counted as lower-division (100- to 200-level) credits at that institution.
However, grades earned for coursework taken at other institutions are included in the overall GPA calculation (which includes courses taken at Marshall University and other institutions), but they have no impact on the Marshall GPA calculation (which includes only Marshall University coursework), except D/F repeats.
What is the procedure for transferring credits from another institution
Identify yourself as a transfer student on your application and request that your previous institution transmits copies of your official transcripts to the Marshall University Admissions Office when you apply for admission to the university.
Admission Requirements for Transfer Students in General:
All transfer students must be eligible to return to the university that they attended most recently to complete their degree. In addition, transfer students who have less than 30 semester hours earned must complete one of the requirements listed below before being admitted.
To get admitted as a freshman, you must meet the current admissions requirements; OR
Have completed 12 graded college-level semester hours while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 2.00.
Transfer students who do not meet either of these standards may file an appeal with the Admission Appeals Committee, which will hear their case. Students who are admitted with a cumulative grade point average of less than 2.00 are considered to be on academic probation and are only permitted to register for a limited amount of credit hours.
