If my Transfer Credit Report (TCR) is wrong, what should I do?
If your Transfer Credit Report (TCR) seems to be missing course credit, follow these steps: SF State requires a valid transcript from all previous universities attended since high school. TCRs are normally ready for new students by early May (fall entrance) or early January (spring entry) (Spring entry).
We normally require approximately five working days after receiving a transcript to add it to the TCR after it is first uploaded. For further information, go to the Transcripts section.

What is the distinction between a TCR and a DPR?
A Transfer Credit Report (TCR) and a Degree Progress Report (DPR) are sent to each undergraduate student (DPR).
The TCR lists courses taken at other colleges and universities, as well as how SF State gives credit for those courses. The TCR also includes information about external exams (Advanced Placement, for example). These are tests that, depending on the results and topic, can be used to gain credit toward a bachelor’s degree. The TCR displays how these tests are credited at SF State.
The DPR lists all degree prerequisites and tracks their status: finished, in process, or not yet completed. A green left arrow indicates requirements completed by transfer credit on the DPR.
What is the maximum number of transfer units I may apply to my SF State degree?
- A bachelor’s degree requires at least 120 semester units.
- The maximum amount of community college units that count toward the 120 is 70 (semester) or 105 (year) (quarter). ​
- Any GE criteria satisfied by any of your college-level transfer courses will be acknowledged if you completed extra community college units. ​
- The degree requires a minimum of 30 units completed in residence at SF State. ​
- The forms of credit that can be used to the degree have various restrictions. Credit for non-academic (vocational, technical, professional, or career-oriented) courses or courses meant to prepare students for baccalaureate-level courses, for example, does not generally count towards a Bachelor’s degree.
I never attended an ASSIST school. Do my units make a difference?
