Financial Information
Scholarships and financial aid are available for transfer students who are citizens or permanent residents of the United States. International students who require financial aid are not permitted to apply for transfer.

- Credits (Min/Max): A total of 16 credits can be transferred. To get a bachelor’s degree at Swarthmore, you must finish 16 course credits (out of a total of 32).
How To Be Eligible For a Transfer To Swarthmore College
Only transfer students are accepted for the autumn semester at Swarthmore. If you have completed two or more semesters of college or university-level courses before the conclusion of the current academic year, you may apply for transfer admissions.
If you hold a bachelor’s degree or higher, you are not eligible to transfer, and students who have completed the equivalent of six or more semesters of college courses are discouraged from applying. Transferring international students who need financial aid to attend Swarthmore are also ineligible.

International Transfer Applicants
- Even if you are ready to renounce the credit you earned elsewhere, if you are an international student who has matriculated at another university in the United States or overseas, you must apply as a transfer student to Swarthmore. Prior to enrollment, international transfer applicants must document all credit and non-credit courses attended at all secondary and tertiary educational institutions. International transfer students who need financial aid to attend are ineligible, and approved international transfer students must demonstrate complete financial independence for the duration of their time at Swarthmore.
Undocumented Transfer Applicants
- You may apply for transfer admission regardless of financial need if you graduated from a U.S. high school or got a high school equivalency diploma in the United States as an undocumented student or with Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status. Undocumented and DACA transfer students’ applications are reviewed on a need-blind basis, just as domestic applicants.
