University of California-Riverside Transfer Acceptance Rate

The University of California-Riverside was established in 1954 as a public university. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 22,687 students (fall 2020), is located in the city, and covers 1,200 acres. The academic calendar is based on quarters. In the 2022 edition of Best Colleges, the University of California—Riverside is ranked #83 in National Universities. It charges $13,742 for in-state tuition and fees and $43,496 for out-of-state tuition and fees.

Despite its Southern California location, UCR has a distinctly Scottish flavor. The University of California—Riverside has named all of its residence halls after Scottish sights, such as Aberdeen-Inverness and the Pentland Hills. The UCR Highlanders participate in NCAA Division I as part of the Big West Conference.

The school’s first mascot was a live Scottish terrier, but now sports teams are cheered on by Scotty, a kilt-clad bear. At sporting events, members of the student Pep Band wear plaid berets and sashes while performing the “Brave Scots” battle song, and students who play the bagpipes or drums can also join the school’s Pipe Band.

Commuters account for over 70% of UCR students, and freshmen are not required to live on campus. However, prominent annual events such as the fall Block Party and the spring Splash may entice students to stay after class. There are about 300 student organizations to investigate, including approximately 40 fraternities and sororities.

The First-Year Success Series, a collection of seminars and workshops that educate students on study and time management skills, can assist freshmen to adjust to college life. Riverside is in a great location for road excursions, with Disneyland and Orange County only 40 miles away and Los Angeles at 60 miles.

UCR is one of ten universities that make up the University of California system. Before becoming a university, it was the official UC Citrus Experiment Station. Faculty researchers have subsequently developed numerous new fruit varieties, including the Melogold grapefruit and the Golden Nugget orange.

Today, the university’s Bourns College of Engineering and Graduate School of Education offer highly regarded graduate programs. Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist Steve Breen, best-selling mystery novelist Elizabeth George, and Nobel Prize-winning chemist Richard Schrock are among the notable alumni.

FAQs

I’m an overseas student who is unsure if I’ll be able to attend Riverside this fall. Is it possible for me to start later?

You may apply to defer your enrollment to the winter quarter if the COVID-19 pandemic has made it impossible for you to schedule a visa appointment in your home country and/or to attend UCR in the fall of 2021.

When and how will I receive my I-20?

Keep an eye out in your inbox for an email with instructions on how to complete the UCR I-20 form. Because your I-20 form will be emailed to you, please double-check that your email address is correct. The I-20 should arrive in around 10 business days after all relevant documents have been submitted.

You must transfer your SEVIS (I-20) record to UCR if you are an international student presently studying in the United States. You won’t be allowed to do this until you’ve graduated or finished your studies at your current school. You’ll go through the identical I-20 procedure as before.

Do I have to attend orientation if I’m studying on a student visa from another country?

Yes! An orientation for international students is held by the International Students and Scholars Office. Attendance is required. Once registration is open, you will receive an email. This is not the same as the Highlander Orientation, which we urge you attend as well.

When will I hear back from UC Riverside about my admissions decision?

Early in March, admission decisions for the fall quarter will be posted on MyUCR, and they will be updated daily thereafter. Do not be disheartened if you do not receive your admission decision by March; this is simply the start of the publishing process for these judgments.

What exactly is an application ID number, and how can I obtain one?

Your application ID number is a seven-digit number contained on the receipt you received after submitting your admissions application.

I will be unable to attend the term for which I applied. How will i be able to keep my spot till the next semester?

We don’t usually hold or roll admissions offers over to the next semester. You can submit a request through admissions.ucr.edu/ask if you have a compelling cause that is beyond your control (e.g., medical concerns or a call to military duty).

Your request must contain a detailed explanation of why you’re making the request, as well as any supporting material that will help you prove it. Please keep in mind that such petitions are rarely granted. However, you are invited to reapply for an open term at a later date when it is more convenient for you to attend.
