Wentworth Institute of Technology is a private, co-educational, technical design and engineering college in Boston, Massachusetts. The college offers 19 bachelor’s degree programs in applied mathematics, architecture, business management, computer science, construction management, design, engineering and engineering technology. The college also offers master’s degrees in construction management, facility management and technology management.
The college was founded in 1904 as the Wentworth Institute to serve the needs of Boston’s growing industrial population. In 1906, the managers purchased land for a campus on Huntington Avenue in Boston’s Longwood Medical Area. In 1964 Wentworth became a co-educational institution admitting its first female students. In 1972 women were accepted into all programs; formerly, all females had been enrolled in the secretarial program. In 1973 Wentworth merged with nearby Nichols House (formerly Nichols Junior College) to form the Wentworth Institute of Technology.
